PERSONAL AMBITION: To one day win Hawaii Ironman FAVOURITE QUOTE: 'While Some People Are Dreaming of Success, Others Wake Up and Do Something About It' Charlotte competed in her first triathlon at 7 years of age in Scotland. After following her sister and dad around whilst they competed in triathlons she decided to give a local event a go. It was organised by her former club Lomond Tri. The club was the smallest in Scotland, but organised some of the best events!. The race was a 200m swim, 5k cycle and 2k run, but seemed a long distance for young Charlotte! Not too sure what to do, Charlotte gave it a go, although thought it was necessary to have to walk at the 'SLOW' signs (which were for cars!) She also walked when others in front of her were doing so, because she thought thats what you had to do. She continued to compete in junior triathlons and in 2002 was ranked 2nd in Britain for the 12-13 age group. She did this in her dads fixed wheel bike. After watching her dad compete in the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii, 2001, she made a promise to herself that one day she would win that race. She has had the 2001 Hawaii Ironman poster on her bedroom wall since then. At 12 years old, Charlotte was selected to the Glasgow School of Sport for Athletics, specialising in track running and cross country up until the age of 15. She represented Scotland in athletics, cycling and triathlon, winning medals at national level in her age group . She moved to Australia with her family, in 2006.The week before she moved, she had a bad crash on her bike, resulting in a broken Jaw. Undeterred, Charlotte raced in the Eagle Point triathlon, the day after arriving in Australia.A bit jet lagged, and unable to speak much(a good thing ), she still managed a podium place!. Charlotte began competing competitively as Junior Elite in Triathlon in Australia, winning a number of state titles. Living in a country area, she found it hard to improve on the swimming leg, which was necessary for drafting races. Not being in agreement with the drafting aspect(she says it is 3 sports, not 2 and a bit ) of triathlon, she decided to controversially turn to longer distance races at the age of 17, and has already started to make an impact as a professional on the Half Ironman scene.
